I'm a parent of two boys who love to walk to school and go walking and cycling round Kendal. I want them to be safe on the streets of town. It is a sad fact that the thing that is most likely to seriously injure them (or worse) is traffic.
Once I realised the benefits of 20mph speed limits in relation to child safety, and that they don't have to be accompanied by expensive and unwelcome traffic calming measures such as speed bumps I was convinced by the concept. Also learning that children's abilities to judge speed over 20mph effectively do not develop fully up until the age of 11 was an eye-opener. Once I understood a few of these basic facts I wanted to support this fantastic national campaign and bring the benefits to Kendal.
